KMS Silker Reconstructor

KMS Silker Reconstructor - the uber bottle

Ever had that awkward moment with yourself, when you're cold, dribbling, shivering in the shower compartment, waiting for the conditioner to work? You can't turn the water on because it's wasteful, and the conditioner won't penetrate properly under 5 minutes. Other than the frost bites and pneumonia, the isolated atmosphere also nurtures an increasing paranoid anticipation of a wigged man coming to stab you.

Showers are scary.....

The days of dreading and hyper-anxiety are over. Thanks to the genius who invented the leave-in conditioner. The KMS Silker Reconstructor is a bloody good leave-in conditioner. For about $25, you can get 150 ml of this creamy goodness that lasts you months. The beauty of it is that it can also act as a light-hold hair gel.

Get the KMS look
For this spikey-ended hair (model depicted uses KMS) that I LOVE, my hairdresser puts the stuff between the base of his fingers and rakes it through my hair ends with firm swiftness. It doesn't deprive your hair of its natural volume yet gently teases it into the desired position. It doesn't give you that horrid hard-wax look either.

The smell is absolutely delightful; a rosy creamy blend that's soft and pleasing on the nostril. Not only to my own nostril, as many I have passed commented on the pleasant scent it leaves as the wind blow through my hair. Narcissistic as it sounds, it's true!

Pure Sex

To pre-empt any disputes on the spelling, I'm using a 'v' and that's final!

Anyway, I am posting on Bvlgari Aqva for men because it smells like pure sex, not sex with purity, but purely sex.

Every man - short, tall, bald, overweight, hairy, fat, skinny, toothless, and teething, has made my head turn wearing this cologne. I would purchase this fragrance to wear myself but am afraid of acting out the inevitable narcissistic tendencies ensuing.

The freshness of the mandarin greets you, then the musky amber creeps up on you like an insatiable beast about to devour you whole. The smell is not too strong, it lingers seductively in the air as the sprayee passes you, sexily subtle and leaves you yearning for more.

The bottle is suspiciously shaped like a breast, which might have been one of its main selling points. One can easily picture male youths hungrily twiddling at its little "button" and macing themselves in the face. Other than that, the deep woody green reflects very nicely the atmosphere the scent creates. Other notes of the fragrance includes orange-tree, petitgrain, woods, sea notes (I don't know what that is either) and Posidina Oceanica (some aquatic plant).

The composition is absolutely blissful.

Disturbingly close resemblance to my lashes

The decreasing level of my financial wellbeing has forced me to forsaken department store beauty counters for Priceline. To my delight I came across an updated version of L'Oreal's Lash Architect, and old favourite of mine. This one boasts a patented brush design that volumises, extends, and curls your lashes to the fullest extent. I excitedly purchased a daring "Midnight Black" shade expecting to flutter my way to work and play.

The conspiracy theorist/loathing customer in my immediately deduced that they must have slapped a new lables on expired crappy original Lash Architects and launched it to and unsuspecting market. What a load of garbage.

For the price of $22.95, this little wand was not cheap. The expense delivered the final blow to my disappointment as I gawked in the mirror at my common, unassuming lashes after feverish application. Upon closer inspection, there was even the dreaded "spider-leg" effect on my lids. I looked like a pre-teen wannabe (at least my eyes) who had found my mother's discarded makeup case and piled a glob of rotten mascara onto my eyes. My lashes stuck together and formed thick, clumpy battallions of fugly. Ironically, after shrieking hysterically, I immediately attempted to remove it with an inefficient L'Oreal eye makeup remover which smudged the residue all over my face.

Swearing off L'Oreal cosmetics. For life (two months of it).

Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion

For Normal to Dark Skin

There is never a better time to work on your tan than in the middle of winter. At least this is what the Dove marketing department must be thinking when they launched their Summer Glow Body Lotion in June. The idea doesn't seem as ridiculous as it potentially could be; considering all the horror skin cancer and wrinkle stories that makes sun-baking not as amusing as it used to be. There is also the over-enthusiasts of the instant tanner; who walk out of the house looking like the Kramer turkey only to sob pitifully after jeers of ridicule are thrown mercilessly at them.

Tan Enthusiast Kramer

Suddenly applying this cheap-as-chips, slow-acting, skin tanner in the middle of winter becomes more and more appealing. Just imagine, nobody would even suspect the increasing golden hue accumulating under your boots, cords, and coats. Then when the time comes, tada! You unveil the glowing goddess/god underneath your winter cover as you are showered by ooohs...ahhhs...of envy, marvel, and admiration from Miss Fish-belly Legs and Mr Chalky Stomach. The very thought makes my own fish-belly legs wobble in delight!

For around $7, you get 250ml of this pleasantly fragranced body lotion. It doesn't really feel different from any other body lotion, though it doesn't oil you up as much as sorbelene. Your skin sort of feels nice and soft afterwards. The trouble is the challenge of consistently covering your whole body with it every night until summer. My arms are tired already.....

Guide to Cleansers on a Budget

June 23rd 2006 03:09
The simple act of cleaning your face has never been more complicated, as wave after wave of new products are introduced to our shelves. Having tried purchasing just any old cleanser and slapping it on my face, I found that the results can be distrastrous. It's easy to find a good, non-irritating cleanser, but they usually will cost you your very pants. Spending your very pants on a dirt remover is never a good idea.

It is best to avoid products with alcohol, fragrance, or sodium laureth sulfate (the stuff that makes it bubble). Unfortunately alot of low-cost supermarket products do contain these ingredients, but some of them are more gentle than others, and aren't half bad. Here are a few cheap cleansers on a budget:

Of all the ridiculous products that cram our shelves right now. Of all the gimmicks that try to pry our hungry hands away from our hard earned cash. Of all the marketing tricks and packaging tactics of the beauty industry. We will all be tempted to give in to some of these fads once in a while.

Looking at the Philosophy shower range, it is difficult to resist paying a ridiculous dollop of money for a plastic bottle filled with fragrance enhanced soap. It's hard to forsake yummy names like "Gingerbread Man", "Frozen Lemon Custard", and "Waffle Cone" and the incredibly realistic scents of these soap products.

Failed Brazillian

June 20th 2006 09:43
Due to an unusual level of delirium, I have decided to give myself a DIY Brazilian wax on the eve of Australia's match against Brazil. Alike the Socceroos, my quest to tackle the Brazilian has failed, but it was still a valouros fight till the end.

The array of nail colours, lacquers, and manicure sets have always been denied from my grasping hands. As a piano player from childhood, I was never endowed with the opportunities to prim and pretty my nails with my stubby fingertips.

There are essentially 3 ways to create a false-lash effect that give your eyelashes that sweeping sultry look that is oh-so-sexy. The most straight-forward way is obviously to stick on some fake lashes. However this requires much skill, precision, time, and is quite costly(if you screw it up alot). You can of course get semi-permanent false lashes attached but that can turn out to be a bit of a hassle as well. For those of us particularly skilled at picking off glued plastic with a tweezer and skillfully trimming and sticking it to one's lids, kudos.

I still remember when I was watching a Chinese Kungfu comedy when I was little, there was a scene where Jet Li's mother accidentally smashes a huge pearl into powder, and she quickly starts rubbing it all over her face as an attempt to savour the value.

Shaping a man's eyebrows take alot more analysis and discipline than it seems. For a woman, the task is simply to choose a suitalbe brow shape, and bring out her natural arch (plucking from below) while cleaning out every stray hair.

Estee Lauder Youth Dew Amber Nude - from esteelauder.com

Seeing the image of this homely bottle, I forget the reason I even sampled this fragrace. The potent nausea that had hit me initally still remains in my handbag, fusing into the leather, refusing to evaporate. In a vain attempt, I have transferred everything from my first bag to another, the smell still lingers on my index finger from prodding the sample during the process.

Do you buy for Face?

A recent article on the Sydney Morning Herald announced the Julia Roberts has been named as the new face of Avon. This would have cost them a whopper of a slice out of their marketing budget.
This prompts me to marvel at the effectiveness and strategy of smacking a celebrity's face on a beauty product. As much as I would like to declare that my purchasing decisions are completely independent of the product's poster child, I must admit that it does make a difference. Scoff if you must!
