how to look after your hair

August 28th 2008 08:22
as an african black women we often have big problems with our hair we tend to over do everything what i mean by this is we use to much hair food and hair oil which are the ones that make our hair break more, what we need to do is use less of those things and start giving our hair time to breath and grow more, sometimes we need to look at what we are using and avoid buying cheap things and more on what is good for our type of hair.wash your hair twice a week and blow dry it and go to hair salons for treatment avoid relaxing it every month but every two months it is good to look after your hair cause it will look after you rember that everytime you want to mistreat it think twice........................

The Bandit by Paris Hilton

August 26th 2008 02:08
You may not likely end up as Paris’ BFF anytime soon (yes, I hear a chorus of disappointed cries), but at least you can have hair like this talentless, publicity-whore socialite Barbie Doll. We all know Paris likes to change her hairstyles as much as she changes her pooches and it’s all thanks to hair extensions. Now, she’s teamed up with Dreamcatchers to come up with the ‘first interchangeable hair extension headband’ known as The Bandit.

Paris Hilton The Bandit
No, it's not another sex video...

*from Dreamcatchers.

Made of the ‘finest virgin European hair’ – can someone please shed light on what this means? – The Bandit is unlike any other hair extension system because it attaches to a headband with velcro, an ‘ultimate method of attachment which protects your own hair from any undue stress or damage’ as it doesn’t use glues, waxes, chemicals and/or weaves.

It comes in 8 different shades (including Paris’ trademark Playboy Bunny blonde) and in 3 different lengths to transform your dull, lifeless natural mane to beautiful, luxurious locks – much like Paris’.

Now, I probably would have bought into this if not for two things. The first and major factor it being Paris Hilton. Personally, I think anything endorsed by Paris should automatically be flushed down the toilet while cackling and humming ‘Nothing in this world can stop us tonight’ and the second thing, well, just check this out from Mail on Sunday:

Paris Hilton The Bandit
The Bandit rears its ugly corks

This was at a Hollywood red carpet event on August 14. An otherwise perfectly coiffed hairstyle was marred when she turned around and revealed, shock horror, The Bandit.

On top of that, the launch of The Bandit in Malibu had a reporter from inquisitr.com observing, “Her hands kept reaching up to make sure the hair extensions were still there.”

Eek.

Bony shoulders a must in NY

August 21st 2008 02:00
NY surgeons are experiencing an increase in the number of their women clientele lining up for liposuction on their shoulders, citing the likes of anorexic-rumoured Keira Knightley and fitness-obsessed Madonna as their inspirations.

Keira Knightley
Hm..do you really want shoulders like KK?

The procedure, which will undoubtedly hit the Oz market sooner or later, costs between US$4000-$10000 and involves an incision, a laser treatment to melt the fat cells before vacuuming them out. Recovery time is only a few days so women need not take too much time off from their exhausting shopping expeditions.

Just to rub it in, these women requesting these procedure are already fit and trim – either from having had previous work done on their face, chest, thighs, tummies or from vigorous sessions at the gym. It’s only that they are still somewhat unhappy with their overall body. Or, I suspect, they haven’t used up their daily allowance and have nothing better to do than stand in their gold-gilded, diamond-crusted mirrors, probing their body to look for slight imperfections they can ‘zap’.

Granted, the shoulders liposuction isn’t as useless or frivolous as, say, having your vaginal lips plumped up, but I can already tell where the market is heading. Before the year is over, I suspect I’ll be grudgingly posting a blog on NY surgeons experiencing a surge in liposuction on big toes or a feet make-over after complaints of ‘my feet look like a frog’s’.

Review of new mascaras

August 19th 2008 02:19
If you’re like me, you’re a marketer’s dream because you get sucked into whatever ads are on TV, featuring beautiful people waving their shiny hair, glowing in their flawless complexion and flashing a thousand-watt smile. And before you know it, you’ve spent your hard-earned money on beauty products that end up going to your bin by the end of the week. So thank goodness for those experts who take the time out to review and critique up and coming products in the ever-growing beauty market.

Kay Montano, a makeup artist in London is a sceptic when it comes to many new trends, believing that most, if not all, beauty companies, are better at marketing their products than actually creating an innovative item worth keeping. Here, she rated 5 new mascaras :

Estee Lauder Turbolash All-Effects Motion Mascara (bloody hell, can the name be any longer?) – AUD$84
Rating : 9/10
Estee Lauder Turbolash All-Effects mascara

Montano praises the easy application of the product without the clogging and mess, whilst creating thicker, separate lashes.

Chanel Exceptional Mascara – AUD$60
Rating : 9/10
Chanel Exceptional Mascara

The wand has alternating strips of comb and brush which you’re supposed to turn as you apply so that the comb covers the lashes with the colour while the brush eliminates any gunk while separating the lashes. Apparently, this has become a fast favourite among the community.

Lancome Oscillation Mascara – AUD$90
Rating: 7/10
Lancome Oscillation Mascara

This first vibrating mascara is battery operated designed to wrap up lashes up to 360 degrees with 7000 micro-oscillations per minute. The product was deemed only OK as it did not go on evenly on the lashes. And for that price, you’d expect it to be more than OK – despite the vibrating factor which, when you think about it, seems a little odd and…useless to me.

Givenchy Phenom’eyes Mascara – AUD$52
Rating: 7/10
Givenchy Phenom'eyes Mascara

The mascara has a thick black wand with a round (think miniature black tree), bristled edge to reach the innermost corner of the lashes. While apparently brilliant on the lower lashes, the wand was a little tricky to use to be applied properly and effectively.

Loreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes – AUD$30
Rating: 4/10
Loreal Double Extension Beauty Tube mascara

Given the worst rating out of the 5 mascaras, Montano’s main gripe with this combo mascara (one end a white gunk of brush designed to condition and separate lashes while the other end is the topcoat to add volume and colour) is that the white basecoat isn’t concealed properly, without adding layers and layers of the topcoat that made her look like Jordan. Ew. If this product is anything like the Loreal Volume Shocking mascara, then I’d have to agree. Walking around with people staring oddly at your lashes, thinking a bird pooped on it doesn’t do anything for your self-esteem.

If you want to forego spending heaps of money on these ‘new and innovative products’, then stick to a class, non-clogging mascara. Montano highlights that the beauty industry’s secret to perfect lashes is to apply one coat of mascara to the root of the lashes, zigzag the wand up toward the tips, separate the lashes using a clean wand then repeating the whole process until the desired effect is achieved.

The secret to Trump's hairstyle

August 13th 2008 00:01
Ever since Donald Trump puckered up to snarl ‘You’re fired’, people’s eyes have been more drawn to his crown, scratching their own heads and asking, “Is it or isn’t it?” – much as I cock my head and ask my husband everytime Bush comes on TV, ‘Is he or isn’t he a muppet?”

Donald Trump
