Summer hair trends

July 28th 2009 10:13

This summer, hair styling takes center stage, whether it's a cascading mass of soft waves or one of the graphic shorter bobs we've been seeing around town.
Scrunch look, the shag worn straight with the cup under the chin, and one length long all are still very much the trend, but you'll see more mid length styles too, like above the shoulders and below the chin... just a little more edgy with pieced ends. Here are some professional tips on how to achieve the looks of summer style.

COLOR
Colors are set free! Bold blondes are transformed into antique gold... Reds and browns are applied light to flatter skin tones... and the "classic black" is taken together with off beat techniques and combined with other effects from slicing to filtering... painting and scattering different hues are used for multi-dimesionalizing...

Violets, Blues and Reds highlight a look totally different from others designed just for 'u'.

NEW CUTS
Freehand
This is a freeform sculpting technique that merges point cutting and exaggerated shear-over-comb. This cut is "the perfect short cut". This look is so popular because it's custom-cut differently on every client who walks through the door. The entire cut is achieved entirely freehand following the shape of the head.

Shaped
We use this cut to complement natural texture. So many people come in with one thing on their mind and that's "texture!" Ideal for those clients who have enough hair to spare, or if the style you already have has lost its shape and doesn't seem to show to its best advantage. The designer begins sculpting weight out of the interior and trims the outer perimeter... this will result in keeping a more defined shape that will enhance all that natural texture while finishing the look with a product that delivers maximum shine.

Textured
This cut is recommended to anyone who wants a more powerful look that is a fun and dramatic length that will give any fine head of hair assertiveness. The shapes within this cut are expressed with strong outlines. It is basically a technique you can go for shag cut, sqaure layered cut or slice cut. It will reveal your feminity and alows for lots of movement in the hair. The best news is that these cuts are just so easy to maintain.

Chunky
A contoured layered look with lots of chunky pieces produces a versatile style that is functional and fun. A basic shape is defined and heavily texturized. The hair is cut vertically, horizontally and diagonally.

The blunt cut will have a lot of texture and movement in the hair, "Before in the 70s the look used to be heavy but now it is very light and with plenty of texture in the back. Uneven layering takes on a softer, more finished look. Hair is more styled and, believe it or not, less flat. Retaining its natural look, it rediscovers movement..."

Strong, sophisticated and glamorous. Hairstyling will be very interesting and fun to play with this coming season. Enjoy!

Communication is the key

July 28th 2009 10:04

What is the difference between big hair stylist and normal hair dressers? Why people prefer these famous hairstylists rather than one who works in their nearby salon? Let talk about Vidal Sassoon, Trevor Sorbie and Robert Lobetta who actually are the legends not only the hair dressers that's what they say in their new book and believe it or not its fact. They have contributed a lot to hair & beauty industry by their work and have changed the whole view of the industry. As a hairdresser they also work with clients of all ages, use techniques like Blow-drying, Colouring, Perming and Cutting hair so what's the difference? No doubt these Successful stylists have an understanding of fashion, art, and technical design but the main difference is the Communication & their Attitude.
There is very less difference between a good hair stylist and a bad hair stylist in terms of skills. Everyone cuts hair with scissor (Mine is different case I cut hair with fire also ), they don't use any special or unique tools, it just they are good thinkers & are good psychologist. They do understand what client is looking for moreover they also understand the feelings which are not expressed by the client or she is getting words to express that feeling. They should enjoy dealing with the public and be willing and able to follow client's instructions. Communication, image, and attitude also play an important role in career success

To be good at this job, you should enjoy working with people, have good communication skills, be good at working with your hands, be creative and artistic and be able to work quickly and neatly. Take an example if the Honda City and Mercedes BENZ cost the same, which would you buy? Off course Mercedes! It was quite easy. Now take salon which offers low prices and offers the same quality cuts as your own salon. Now guess it? Will she select the shop that gets her there in ordinary style, or the one that goes the extra mile to make her trip a luxury experience? You guessed it. To make your salon the obvious choice, you need to go beyond utilitarian customer service, and steer your career by the Benz principle.

Like any fashion designer or architect I feel good hair dresser need to have a plan before you pick up your tools like that he is gong to do. I don't like to see people just take out scissors & combs and get into a haircut without any kind of system. Good hair dressers are the people who have a vision, possess a system, and understand shapes. I suggest every hair dresser to talk to their client about their specific need and then suggest them some suitable style according to their lifestyle, face shape & texture. Some people may feel awkward to wait and talk to their clients but I am sure Customers appreciate this systematic approach and moreover you will be able to earn their confident. Your client will feel easy and comfortable.

HERE ARE FEW TIPS WHICH WILL HELP YOU TO ENHANCE YOUR CAREER

1. Smile. Always welcome your client with cute Smile. It will not only put your client comfortable but make her talk more frankly

2. Be a good listener, don't ever let her think that you are not interested in what she is saying and never interrupt in between. Make eye contact. Don't just look at her hair, Let a client know you're interested in what they're saying.

3. Be sure you have consulted with clients on their service needs. You should thoroughly understand what clients expect.

4. Avoid Bad Breathe, and avoid chewing gum at the time of work. I have seen clients shifting to another stylist due to your breathe. Wear clean and ironed clothes. I am sure everyone knows first impression is the last impression. Remember by presenting yourself in better way, you are winning confidence of your client.

5. Don't be a copy cat. Create on own style, own creation are always better than copying, it doesn't matter what you name your cut. Pay attention to every aspect of a cut.

6. Don't work for money, instead take pride in your work, and love your profession. Money will come by itself. Hair dressing is the profession which allows you to showcase your creativity and off course you will earn name, fame and money

7. Last but not least Avoid bad temper as bad temper will take your client far away. Like any other profession, here also you will find lots of unusual clients so make sure you handle them with care. Never get irritated, your clients are paying you and they always expect something special from you.

Be warm, friendly and outgoing, and I am sure then your staff and clients will adore you. They will admire your incredible sense of style and then who knows you will be next Vidal Sassoon, George Caroll, Andrew Collinge, Pierre Alexandre, Daniel Galvin, Guy Kremer Trevor Sorbie, Robert Lobetta and other legends of HAIR DRESSING INDUSTRY

In todays world everyone wants to look beautiful, everyone wants to get compliment from their friends and its a well known fact that when you look good you feel good and then you work better. People are now realizing that its not their clothes, shoes, jewellery which describes them it is also their hair, this is the reason they are getting more experimental and are open to change. The result? you can see on the streets women are going for their own individual & different style, they are not bothered about what people will say. There is lot of movement and texture in the hair as it use to be and it also benefitted the stylists now they can show their skills & creativity. Today hair dressing is one of the top industry in the world and as the fashion expand in fashion industry oppurtunities are growing at good pace not only in hair salons but also in film & tv industry, fashion houses, magazines, photo studios etc. So if you enjoy working with people, like to use your creative abilities, have interest in fashion & art and enjoy a sense of achievement in your work, then a career in Hair dressing is waiting for you. I feel there is tons of potential in the hair dressing industry, the opportunity for growth and personal development is the part of this profession. Hair dressing is a career which allows you to showcase your creativity to have fun, to earn name, fame and good money. Great opportunity for growth and through your work and also you will have the opportunity to meet new people and always learn something new.

Also to change few People opinion I must say hair styling is an art and a good hair stylist is always a very valuable commodity. A hair stylist that specializes in dealing with your hair type is even more valuable and much harder to come by. I really believe that the cut and style of your hair can transform your look and personality from grossly ugly to a glamorous look. professional and competent hair cutting is the basis of good hair dressing. Designing a Cut needs care, precision, artistic appreciation, technique combination and control. It includes the elements of balance rhythm, line and movement. Understanding the nature of shapes is having an understanding of the elements that build them. The building components in creating shapes are points, lines and angles. Each component defines the nature of the shape and the style it represents.

Hairdresser is involved in helping a person make the most of their appearance. It is a fast moving profession with many exciting opportunities available. I must say oppurtunities for talented, creative, innovative people are endless. The hairdressing industry is continually developing and changing, creating an increasing range of styles that can be used. Believe me there are many different hair cutting styles and techniques that one wouldn't believe it. What is really a hair cut? It is a geometry applied to hair. A very caring hairdresser will study very hard to understand all angles, circles and lines he/she might have to use while haircutting, in order to fit his/hers clients body and face shapes. Understand the words beauty & art and Always remember the sentence "we really care for our clients"

So when you make your mind that you really want to take up this profession, understand few things 1. It involves dealing with people. 2. It is an important part of the fashion industry and involves using your creativity and imagination. 3. You need to have communication skills in order to talk to clients and build up a good relationshp, have a friendly manner and good listening skills 4.It is a physically demanding job, requiring you to spend long hours on your feet. so if you have tired legs dont think of it.

BEST OF LUCK FOR THIS EXCITING CAREER.

No time for exercise?

July 27th 2009 00:04
Before giving birth, I was a health freak and a walking calorie counter. I motivated myself to work out 5 hours a week and took long walks during the weekends when it was beautiful day out.

Unfortunately, in between work, feeding bub and getting him to sleep, taking him over to both sets of grandparents during the weekend, this new addition to the household has bereft me of my time to exercise and my sneakers have been sitting in the cupboard down the stairs, gathering dust

My husband and sister had a heated argument over the weekend about women and ageing gracefully. My sister argued that it is not in a woman’s nature to age gracefully, and the women who ‘appeared’ to do so had undertaken plastic surgery to look younger – especially in Hollywood. She added that men, as they grow older, only look more distinguished and dignified.

My husband considered this a totally sexist comment, and believed that there are older women in Hollywood who have not gone under the knife and still look quite attractive – perhaps a rare few but they do exist
