Lemon Detox Diet Review

September 28th 2009 02:11
Ok all, so I was a person who wanted to read reviews on people’s experience on the Lemon Detox Program.

Thus I thought I would give you my review for the first three days to date and complete another one at the end.

So I am a 26yr old female, starting weight at 57.2kg and 5 foot 3 inches tall.

I am currently at the heaviest weight I have been as I am a sporty person but after my wedding I relaxed and ate my way to 58 about 4kg. To some it might not sound a lot but to me it is a concern and I believe to get off the extra kilos before they start to get out of control, thus the detox was on.

Day 1

Starting weight 57.2kg

So it tells you to drink 1L of salt water first thing in the morning. I thought ok no worries…. It made me gag.

I just could not do it… I lasted about 4 slips and had enough…. Not a good start.

I made my first drink in a 600 ml bottle. I hate the cayenne pepper in it thus decide to go against it for future drinks, which for me tastes so much better.

People talk about the taste and I found it easy to drink – not a problem at all for me, but it’s not for everyone.

But again I have not made it to the letter as I took out the pepper – so might not be doing its job as effectively.

So not really a problem hunger wise until about 4pm when it kicked in. I really wanted to eat but decided nope stay strong.

The problem was that I had to work that night doing a function.

I thought I didn’t need to bring the drink I will be fine.

NOPE I wasn’t. I was starving all shift and handing out hot food killed me.

So please always bring the detox drink wherever you are I say.

Got to bed about 2am to a good sleep.

Day 2

Had to go to work at 9am the next day so not a lot of sleep I gave the salt water a go first to my surprise after leaving it in my drink bottle for the day taste was much better.

But only had a few sips as running late for work.

This day was worse than the first day hunger wise.

I woke up with a headache, but didn’t take anything and eventually went away.

Weighed myself to a loss of 1kg, happy days… this keeps me motivated to get around a 4-5kg drop. But will be happy with 3kg

Worked during the day which I ran out of my drink as I made 1.2L and drank pretty quick.

Thus hunger really got me around 3pm when I got home to the smell of fried rice… so temping but again mind over matter and I survived.

Feeling really cold today, but not sure if its detoxing or just the cold weather?

Feel asleep for half an hour but having worked till 2am and having to get up at 9am for work again prob the lack of sleep then the detox for why I am tired.

But at 9.30pm when I want to go to sleep find it really hard as I am wide awake. I don’t usually have trouble sleeping at all even with an arvo nap.

Eventually feel asleep and slept well.

Drank around 3L of the mix and only 1L of water.

Have not tried the tea yet.

Day 3

I do a boot camp class that I pay upfront for a month. Thus tough decision on if I should attend and decide that I don’t want to pay and not go.

Thus woke up at 5.30am with more ease then I usually do and head off to the session.

To my horror I have to run 6km…. let’s just say at the 3km mark my legs and body feel like a tonne of bricks – so heavy unbelievable but I make it.

Go home exhausted and can hardly lift my arms to take a shower…

But weight myself and have lost .5kg total of 1.5kg in two days.

Hoping for the 1kg again as it felt a lot harder day 2 but happy to get the results and keeps me motivated.

This morning not really hungry even after my killer run. I think the worse is over then I head into work to find a huge plate of donuts sitting there wanting me to eat them….

Smelt so good and looked even better… I’m not a huge cake person, chocolate is my downfall but I tell you what they were the best looking donuts I have seen in a long time.

But I say no and head back to my desk with my lemon drink and get to work.

10.30am the hunger starts to really kick in – have had 600ml of the lemon drink so plan to drink a lot more to stop the cravings.

Hate to give this info but lets say I did pass no.2 after 2 days – without the tea or alot of salt water but dont recommend my way if the detox is suggesting having these and the pepper.

Have a slight constant headache all morning not really bad but annoying.

Not sure if you can eat Chewing Gum but I have been eating it to get another flavor and to avoid bad breath which is one of the symptoms I read in the book you get.

So I also find it hard to concentrate at work as well.

Well it is lunchtime day 3 and the hunger isn’t too bad, my tummy is rumbling but I am not dying from hunger

But I can tell you it feels like the longest days as you are constantly counting down the days to finish it.

Mind over Matter…. I will write back when I have done the 7 days or maybe another update at day 5.

Look forward to any questions or comments.

No time for exercise?

July 27th 2009 00:04
Before giving birth, I was a health freak and a walking calorie counter. I motivated myself to work out 5 hours a week and took long walks during the weekends when it was beautiful day out.

Unfortunately, in between work, feeding bub and getting him to sleep, taking him over to both sets of grandparents during the weekend, this new addition to the household has bereft me of my time to exercise and my sneakers have been sitting in the cupboard down the stairs, gathering dust.

watching tv no exercise

Every week, I weigh myself and I can see those grams piling up and, I’m sure before I know it, I’ll look in the mirror and wonder what had happened to my figure.

So I started thinking about what I could do during the day that could help me keep those kilos at bay, and realised the key is to be physically active and creative, and concentrate instead on shorter bouts of workouts. Yes, you may probably not lose as much weight as if you were working out in a gym for 30 to 60 minutes, but I figured every little bit helps and it beats doing nothing at all.

AT WORK

Walk an extra block to get to work

Park your car further away or get off at an earlier train or bus stop. If this isn’t possible, take a longer route to work. If you’re worried about running late for work, then use this excuse to walk briskly and increase your heart rate. I find this helps me beat the cold as well, while getting some much needed vitamin C as well which seems to boost my spirits.

Skip the elevator and head for the stairs instead
Why would you want to join the throng of bleary-eyed people waiting for the elevators, then squeezing into a tiny cubicle with them, avoiding eye contact with anyone in the elevator mirrors? Opt for the empty stairwell instead and use the stairs to work on your butt and legs. Do this going to work, going home and even when you duck out for lunch.

Not having exercised in a year and a half, I was huffing and puffing after the first flight of stairs and ready to collapse at my boss’ feet. I had to cut short my workout and caught the elevator the rest of the way, but recognising that I was able to tackle more flights of stairs as the days progressed boosted my confidence and made it a challenge for me. I’m hoping by the end of this week, I’ll be able to tackle all 5 flights of stairs.

Do crunches while sitting down

If you have a desk job, you’re obviously spending most of the time sitting at your desk, staring at the computer. Take this time to do crunches. Lean back in your chair, then tighten your stomach muscles, counting 15 seconds as you pull yourself back up. Don’t forget to breathe and if you experience any back discomfort, stop. Do this as many times as you want throughout the day.

Get up and walk around occasionally
Instead of ringing an internal number, pop over and see a colleague. Fill up only half of your water bottle so you have more trips to the water cooler. Don’t let your PA make your coffee, go to the kitchen and do it yourself. Make an excuse to leave your desk every hour or so and give yourself a chance to stretch your legs.

Walk a bit during lunch
It doesn’t take a full hour, or even half an hour, to eat your lunch so why don’t you use some of that time to be physically active? Forget using the rest of your lunch hour to get on Facebook or Twitter, complaining about how you don’t have time for exercise. Get some fresh air and WALK And if you can get a walking buddy, even better.

AT HOME
When you have children, chances are that you’re probably already physically active, with time to watch TV, catch up on sleep, read a good book a thing of the past. But you can always up the intensity and get a bit more creative with your activities –

Don’t just walk when you take your kids out

If you’re taking your bub out in a stroller, stay away from flat grounds and opt for the hill to get your heart rate moving. Quicken your pace, don’t just go for a stroll. If your kids prefer to walk and they’re walking too slow for you, do some lunges or jog around them. This will also create a positive effect on your children who will learn the value of physical exercise.

Join your kids in an activity
Whatever activity your kids are engaged in, don’t just sit there and watch them.
If you’re at a park, encourage your kids to play some sport and join them. Initiate a chasing game for the toddlers or throw a ball around. If you have a bub, entertain them by pretending you’re a member of The Wiggles or High-Five, sing songs, jump and dance around, or join a playgym group.

Think of cleaning as a workout

Vacuuming, sweeping the floor, cleaning out the fridge, scrubbing the toilet walls and tiles are a great way to burn some calories – and keep your house spic and span too. When vacuuming, assume the position as if you were doing a ‘dumbbell row’ to work your back muscles – one leg bent forward (not jutting the knee out beyond the toes), and the other leg stretched out behind, and using the arm opposite the forward leg, push and pull the vacuum cleaner. When cleaning the walls or glass of a shower cubicle, make a big sweep of your arm, very much like the ‘wax on, wax off’ technique in the Karate Kid. As you clean the lower tiles, don’t bend over or even crouch, do a lunge instead and hold this position for as long as you can.

Exercise during the ad breaks
Is there a TV show that you will always make time to watch everyday? Then pass the time during ad breaks by doing sit ups, lunges, weight training, etc.

If you have an opportunity to exercise, take it
Even if it’s only once a week, a fortnight, a month, if you are given the opportunity to exercise vigorously for at least half an hour, take it. Every little bit helps and you’ll find, if you’re keeping yourself physically active throughout all the other days, you’ll see a difference.

Of course, you can be physically active all you want, but if you’re reaching for Doritos and indulging in KFC, you’re wasting your efforts, so make sure you eat healthy.

As I said, it may not burn as much calories as if you were doing regular proper gym workouts, but it’s a start and it beats doing nothing at all.

It’s been months since you’ve given birth and you hope you’d have gone back to your pre-pregnancy weight. You start regretting all the fried chicken, burgers and fajitas you ate during pregnancy – and probably after birth too – and you develop a hatred for the likes of Heidi Klum and Jessica Alba for shedding off all that weight in just a matter of weeks. How did they do it? Forget liquid diets, diet pills, detox and starvation, here are some celeb yummy-mummies who beat the baby bulge and how they did it -
Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba - now a hot mama

Jessica Alba was the cause of many fights when I found out she was the reason why my then-boyfriend wouldn’t answer my calls during Dark Angel. So when I heard that she was pregnant, I was smugly certain that her status as the World’s Sexiest Woman would come crashing down. But postpartum, the girl looks even better than before, sporting a bigger bust! Grrr…

Her secret? 3-2-1 Baby Bulge Be Gone by Ramona Braganza. It’s a 12-week program, no-nonsense, practical approach to weight loss that combines healthy eating and exercise. You’re encouraged to eat three meals and two snacks daily but the main staples are fresh vegetables, lean protein, complex carbohydrates and plenty of water. Her exercise plan is also divided into 3 phases, designed to gradually get you moving.

Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts - looking nice and svelte

Naomi Watts lost her baby weight just two months after giving birth to her second son. She says she ate more than she did when she was pregnant but she didn’t resort to any fad diets. Before you start hating her, she adds that her weight loss was down to breastfeeding.

Everyone goes on about it – from your grandmother to the midwives to the community nurse. I remember when I was pregnant, the most asked question besides, “Is it a girl or a boy?” was “Are you going to breastfeed?”

Not only does breastfeeding provide all the nutrition your baby needs for the first six months but it burns between 200 to 500 calories a day, depending on how much the baby eats. This is great news considering I burn 300 calories doing one hour of Tae-Bo!

Just make sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum - still a Victoria's Secret runway model

Heidi Klum seems to have it all, doesn’t she? A loving husband, three gorgeous kids – and she managed to walk down the runway with no ounce of fat, stretch marks or cellulite only three weeks after the birth of her third child. Many have accused Klum of resorting to plastic surgery but she insists that her weight loss is due to exercise (which she kept up to the last month of pregnancy), eating healthy and a fast metabolism.

So what motivated Klum to hit the gym so fast after childbirth – besides the idea of being touted as a ‘has-been-model?’ Taking photos of her nude body every week apparently. Keeping track of how her body changes every week motivates her to keep active and eat well. She says that she also made sure all junk food was taken out of her fridge (as if there was ever any, right?) and replaced them with healthy food so she wouldn’t be tempted to snack on high-calorie foods like her favourite, ice cream.
Nicole Ritchie
Nicole Ritchie - an advocate for stroller-walking

Nicole Ritchie, now pregnant with her second child, says she barely has time to polish her nails these days, let alone go to the gym. Her only form of exercise is hanging out with her daughter, Harlow and taking her for a walk in the stroller.

It may not burn that many calories but it’s better than sitting at home with the baby blues and the fresh air is sure to revive your spirits. You can start slowly by aiming for a ten-minute walk around the block then gradually make each walk longer, incorporating some steep climbs along the way as your energy picks up. Even short, frequent walks with the stroller each day will help. Pushing the pram, especially up a small hill, will work wonders for your triceps. What’s great about this is that it helps settle the baby as well. The baby will get some much-needed rest while you get some exercise.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow shows off her sexy legs

Gwyneth Paltrow attributes her svelte, post-birth figure to breastfeeding, a balanced diet – and Spanx. Spanx is a figure-shaping underwear that smooths out the lumps and bumps. It’s a great, quick-fix for that night out where you want to look special without fear of any unattractive jiggling. Paltrow even wore one to the Oscars.

With the fatigue, sleep deprivation and the blues most mums experience after birth, losing weight is tough. Whatever you decide to do to take the weight off, it’s important to remind yourself to take things easy and not be pressured into losing the weight as quickly as possible. It took nine months to put the bulk on so take the same amount of time to shed it.

Sick of the gym? Try these out!

February 12th 2009 01:02
It didn’t take me long to realize that me and a gym membership just aren’t compatible. After the initial three weeks of psyching myself up and regularly going to the gym every second day, the motivation began to wane and driving to the gym soon became like driving to the dentist to get my wisdom tooth taken out. So looking around for alternative forms of exercise is always a good option. Msn.com Health road-tested four technologies that promise an improvement in your general health and physical appearance.

Make up Don't Break Up

November 29th 2008 18:25
Make up or War paint
There is a lot of different beliefs regarding make-up, in my opinion less is more. When your are young mother nature has given you a beautiful wrinkle free complexion so why hide under layers of oil or water based artificial pigment. Let you natural beauty shine through remember make-up is only to improve on what was given to you at birth. I have been a fully qualified cosmetologist for about 15 years now and I have advised this to my younger clients. Teenagers through lack of confidence pile it on thinking that they will hide all their imperfections when really they had just highlighted them, you see that is what make-up is a highlighter it draws attention to the good bits. A young girl starting out a bit of lip gloss and some mascara that’s all you need. At night in your room maybe with friends practice eye shadow and blush, make sure it is a friend who will tell you the truth. I used to have make-up parties when my friends were sleeping over we had great fun, trying to improve each other or just making a monster out of each other. Give it a try girls you need to hide nothing so this is your time to shine.
Getting older it happens to us all, I am in my 30’s and noticing some new lines that were not there before. Don’t think you can fill them with make-up it does not work remember in my previous paragraph you will just highlight them. His is when you take the focus off them, pay attention to your eyes but not too heavy just define them more with eyeliner and the brow bone should be a light shade. Define your lips more with lip pencil it also stops colour bleeding. Your blush should be minimal just highlighted. When your eyebrows are perfectly tweezed, your eye shadow is applied well along with definition created with the eye pencil, your cheeks hollow highlighted with a light blush maybe some highlighter at the top of the cheek and the most perfectly defined kissable lips ever you will be giving the stars a run for their money

Hair Today Not Gone Tomorrow

November 29th 2008 18:22
Hair
It does more than keep your head warm.
Hair can show a quiet, confident, trendy etc. Person. The colours you can get nowadays are exceptional, but also remember get advice because skin tone and lifestyle plays a big part, instead of complimenting you it can go horribly wrong. Each person is a individual and therefore will suit different things. Have a good look at yourself in the mirror, notice your colour of hair especially base tones ( (the actual colour black, brown. Red, blonde) then notice the natural highlights (best seen in daylight) Hair is made from the 4 basic pigments Black, brown, red, blonde whatever pigment you have most of is your all over colour. Highlights you will notice more at the front, hair is always that bit lighter at the front because of the elements. Now that you have got that sorted out what colour should you go for

No, it’s not another gimmicky weight-loss program that involves drinking litres and litres of powder shakes and/or lemon juice. If you’re after a quick-fix weight loss, this diet isn’t for you, but if you’re after a healthier lifestyle and general well-being, read on.

Pregnancy massage

October 21st 2008 01:39
I’m sure many pregnant women will agree with me when I say there is no better or more crucial time to get massages than when you’re in the later stages of pregnancy, when you feel like you’re lugging a baby elephant around (who’s squirming on many occasions). Not to mention the sleepless nights alternating between tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position and flailing up out of bed only to stumble to the toilet in the dark.

Maybe it’s because I have my first bub on the way and I’ve been reading a plethora of self-help books on how to be a good parent, and because everytime I turn on the news, I’m being reminded that one in four Australian children are overweight or obese, but I’ve noticed an alarming number of children, as small as two years, sitting in their high chairs, being fed burgers and fries in cafes, restaurants and food courts.
