What's your Daily Beauty regime?

July 23rd 2007 00:04
As I had already highlighted in one of my old posts, I used to be a beauty product marketer’s dream. If I was impressed by an advert, I bought the advertised product the next day. And if a sales clerk happened to stop me and gave me a spiel on why I should buy certain beauty products, I would. And if I asked a sales clerk what products would be recommended for my specific skin problems and she listed 100 products, I would walk out of the shop with a $500 charge on my credit card.

Beauty Model
Despite what the ads say, no beauty products in the world can make me look like this

With so many beauty products littering my bathroom, one can only imagine how long it would take me to get ready in the morning. Between the cleanser and moisturiser, I had toners, boosters, daily exfoliators, serums, anti-ageing creams and blemish creams. It took me three years to realise that most of these products were doing nothing for my skin. With the money I’d wasted on these products, I could have put myself up in a bure on stilts over the water in Asia or South Pacific for a week!

My advice? Keep it simple. I think slathering too many products on your skin will only do damage to it in the long run anyway. Now, I only have a cleanser and moisturiser in my bathroom cabinet and it only takes me 10 minutes to get ready – that includes brushing your teeth and getting dressed.

I'm curious to find out - What’s your daily beauty regime and how long does it take you to get ready? Have you also been roped into buying products just because of an ad?

I was once like that, yes. Like you though, I culled all the rubbish out of my bathroom cabinets and now I have a very simple regime.

Cleanser (while I'm in the shower), Toner, Moisturiser, day with SPF 30 and night with some kind of calming stuff to de stress my skin. Twice weekly Retinol treatment. Twice weekly exfoliate. Vitamin C serum if there's a special event coming up. AHA gel if there's a nasty yucky coming up.

Suddenly that sounds more complicated than it seems...?

You'd need to turn back the clock and the DNA for me.

Daily, shower, hair wash, comb hair, get dressed! C'est tout! As you can see I am naturally very beautiful.

katyzzz....I never wanted to go around with just my bikini bottoms and nothing on the top, requiring me to wrap my arms around them.

Hi Aimzster

My regime is similar to yours, simple and quick. Who has the time for that malarky?!

Aimzter,

I used to have SO many beauty products in my bathroom. I'm a marketers dream also.

But these days I only use a cleanser, eye cream and moisturiser. Once a week or so I'll also exfoliate my face, but that's it. Brush my teeth and then I'm off.

I still do love to buy beauty products though. There's something irresistable about them!

Aimster,

I head straight for the bathroom and remove all the toxins from the day before. Before I apply Osram 60W ceiling globe highlight to my face I use Sunbeam kettle steam foundation to cleanse the pores (blush included if you get close enough to the spout). Then it's black coffee lipstick, a bit of passive smoke hairspray called Waft, then straight into a lengthy keyboard manicure session. When the sun rises, I pull the blinds up and get a solarium-style tan from the reflection off last night's leftover beer cans, then apply VB deodorant called Manly orally. Once a week I'll apply red Shiraz lippy first thing in the morning.

Hmmm...cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer and eye cream. I keep hearing mixed comments about toners. Does anyone use a toner -- is it necessary?

Hi Chic...what's the Retinol Treatment, Vitamin C Serum and the AHA gel?

Hi Katyzzz...you beat me there. I don't even brush my hair sometimes. Oh, I don't know. There are times on the beach where I would love to perch myself upon a rock or something, topless.

Hi Tracy...you'd be surprised. I know a lot of people who used to spend as much time in the bathroom as I used to do. Actually, my brother's one of them.

Hi Kylie...it's the packaging, isn't it? I'm a sucker for those big glossy boxes they come in.

Hi David...hmm...do you think I'll get the same natural rosy blush with delonghi?

Hi Lara...apparently, if you have oily skin, toners are good for you. But I have dry, sensitive skin and I've noticed toners just strip off the natural oils from my skin so I skip it. I've heard that if you have a good cleanser, you don't really need a toner anyway.

Oh I know, I have a friend that does all that stuff. Whenever my hair takes more than 10 minutes to do what it wants to do, I'm bored and wondering how she does it everyday.....not for me....

Upon a rock or "something" you exhibitionist you, thanks for reminding me to clean my teeth.

I've never had an offer on the beach, always looked the other way after inspecting the merchandise.

katyzzz....some of that merchandise looked good and still does, oh, well, it's not everyone who can be a wowser.

Aimzster,

Me?

A shower and some massage oil for my skin.. a splash of perfume...

Otherwise I try to practice God's Beauty Tips, daily;

For attractive lips
Speak words of kindness

For beautiful eyes
Look for the good in others

To lose weight
Let go of stress, hatred,
anger, discontentment,
and the need to control others

To improve your ears
Listen to the Word of God

or poise
Walk with knowledge and self-esteem

To strengthen your arms
hug at least 3 people a day
Touch someone with your love.

To strengthen your heart
forgive yourself and others

For the ultimate in business
casual or evening attire
put on the robe of Christ

It fits like a glove
but allows room for growth.
Best of all it never goes out of style
and is appropriate for any occasion.

Doing these things on a daily basis
will certainly make you
a more beautiful person.

Worrying is like a rocking chair
it gives you something to do
but it doesn't get you anywhere.

Authur unknown to me.

I think beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, don't you?

Lilla ...

Hey.

When I bother, my routine depends on the colour of my hair. If it's blonde, I wear makeup so I look less dead. (I have albino syndrome, only with bluish eyes.) If it's red, I just get dressed and brush my hair. I take a bath in the evenings.

When I don't bother, I generally just wash my face or something.

still chuckling over David's regime..

Aimzster, i use any brand soap, sorbolene, vanilla body spray, and very rarely, perfume (Intuition)

If i can drag myself away from the mirror.. 10 minutes to get ready.

Heya - to answer your questions -

Retinol is anti-ageing - for wrinkles and pigmentation
Vitamin C Serum - helps to regenerate the skin
AHA Gel - is an acidic concentrate to clear up spots

I forgot to mention that I do brush my teeth, and do my hair as well. Just in case you think I'm all scruffy and crook in the mouth. I do the whole bit. Every day. But I don't wear make up every day. Unless I'm going out.

Man this simple process I had feels like it's getting more and more complicated with each comment I make to this post!!!

Hi Lily...really? just any brand of soap? You're lucky. My sister's the same thing and she has clear smooth complexion. I have to make sure I use only certain types of cleansers otherwise my skin would feel like sandpaper.

I use a cleanser, then moisturiser and eye cream. Sometimes I use a toner as well, if I feel like my skin needs it. I hardly ever exfoliate or anything, generally because of sheer laziness.

It's not lucky. I'm not white-blonde, I'm just the right shade of blonde that I look like a corpse without makeup.

I need to have something to make me look either really pale or tan when I'm blonde.

Wouldn't mind being properly white blonde, though.
That'd be cool.

And my eyes are grey-blue-green, so not properly blue.

Hi Nina, same. Before, every week without fail, I'd steam, exfoliate, apply mud masque, lie back with pieces of cucumber on my eyes. But I get lazy as well. Now everytime I get a facial, the therapist is always asking me why I let my skin 'go crap'.

Hi Aimzster,

oh you should see the bathroom around our place.. I swear my sister buys everything and anything on offer when it comes to beauty products! Sucked in every time!

I`m a cleanse, tone and moisturise kinda gal, with an exfoliate once a week and a facial wash in the shower every night. I don`t wear make-up on a daily basis so it doesn`t take me long to get dressed... especially now that I dont have to worry about long and tangly hair too

I find using Bicarb on the underarms instead of deo gets rid of any BO that may occur for the whole day... and is a lot friendlier on the body than chemical sprays or roll ons. Light sprinkling of perfume on the clothes... and the day is ready to get going!

great post and some great comments too!

Ash,

Cutting my hair was one of the best decisions I ever made: long hair that tangles if you look at it the wrong way.

Trust me, I hated it. I like it better now that it's shorter.

Wash face with oatmeal scrub in the shower, then a little Olay regenerist under the eyes, which I've been doing since I was 19 (dire warnings from older friends about "age lines").

That's it. I live in a blastingly hot , drenchingly humid climate and have oily skin. Any attempts at makeup tend to slide right off after about 10 minutes.

We should all post recent pics of ourselves, noting age, climate and skin type and compare notes..

I'm much more skeptical than you once were, but I do have a very complex regime.

For my skin I only use Origins products and I find that every morning and evening when I put these on or wake up I am so happy with how soft and perfect my skin feels and looks.
I use the Dr. Andrew Weils for Origins cleaner, toner, serum, and day moisturizer which completely eliminates my sensitivity and subsequent breakouts, redness, dryness etc. I use the Never-say-Dry eye cream. I also use A Perfect World face serum and the eye serum every other day (this stuff is divine!)
The Dr. Weil for Origins lip balm stick is the only product (I have literally tried hundreds) that stops my lips from cracking and drying out. It also looks perfect - I would never use lipgloss again because stimulates the blood in my lips so I have perfect pink lips. In the night I use another origins lip treatment.

For night I continue with the same regime but I replace the moisturizer with "Night-a-mins" which is just a miracle product. No joke, I put it on and if I have pimples etc. I wake up without them. It totally nourishes my skin.
I also scrub two to three times weekly with 'Modern Friction' and use the charcoal mask. I don't use any anti-aging products (yet) because I think thats a bit early at 17. I just like to be good to my skin now.

On the make up side of things, I wear Armani for coverage: foundation and sheer power. Chanel for colours: blush and when I wear eye shadows. Dior mascara.

This seem like a lot now that I write it out, but I really feel so much better for it and my skin has improved so much since the days of using harsh Clinique products or other brands. I sound so high maintenance but it really doesn't take so long, and i think it's important to look after myself.

For body:
I dry bush my body i before showering, and then twice weekly scrub with Biotherm anti-cellulite scrub. I use origins Ginger products in the shower, and also their bath products (I try to have a relaxing bath every night before bed). I use the Biotherm anit-cellulite body serum too.
I make a point to weekly take care of my feet and hands.

Hair:
Kerastasis shampoo and treatment.

Takes about 15 minutes in morning and 10 in evening bathing and body (about 5 minutes to brush, scrub and then moisturize). I let my hair naturally dry

Thats all =)

Dove soap. Suave shampoo. If you're lucky, I might brush my hair and shave my uni brow. I've never cared for all that malarkey. I once allowed myself to be talked into wearing makeup, and it did nothing for me except to make me look even more childlike than I already do. I actually have a mental block against losing weight because I'm deathly afraid I'll be mistaken for a fourteen year old! There's nothing I can do to look like a 34 year old woman. And it is really, really starting to bother me. I loathe looking like a child.
