Dr Brandt Skincare : for a Poreless Complexion
June 19th 2006 08:33
I have recently discovered my new chemical dependency on an overpriced tub of moisturizer.
After a friend invited me to see Cirque du Soleil, and I had turned it down to divert the expense towards 50 ml of moisturizer, I knew I was close to checking into rehab. This is all thanks to the man pictured below:
This is Dr Fredric Brandt, a dermatologist based in New York who has come up with a very good looking range of skincare products, mainly anti-aging. Boasting impressive names of "Crease Release", "Laser in a Jar", and "Microdermabrasion in a Jar", it's extremely tempting to spend $600 on the range. Which is what I tell myself after priding in only spending $100 on a jar of white paste. Though the jar is very pretty, all glassy and smooth.
The particular jar of my infatuation is the "Pore Effect" evening moisturizer. It has this herby medicinal smell that shouts "put me on your face, I am delightful". It claims to be great for those with the woeful fortune of sporting breakouts and oiliness on their skin; visibly clarifying and smoothing the tone and texture while controlling insane oil production and hastening cell turnover. So your skin gets an overnight treat and you wake up a little less ugly each day.
Delighted with its effects and it's very pretty lavender scent, I looked forward to slapping it on my face every evening. Till one night, having the audacity to sample another product, I was punished for my shameful betrayal with a horrific breakout. So in a way, I am now held prisoner in this glistening tub of creamy goodness.
My righteous indignation would have persuaded me to promptly smash the jar into a million pieces and get flying shards jabbing into my eye. But something strangely alluring about the reflection in the pretty glass entrances me to keep purchasing. I must have them all! Those pretty triangle ones, and the shiny tubey ones.......

It's like that Head and Shoulders shampoo, your scalp turns into a snow field when you stop using that crap.
