Fragrance Review: Estee Lauder Youth Dew Amber-Nude
June 9th 2006 03:24
Seeing the image of this homely bottle, I forget the reason I even sampled this fragrace. The potent nausea that had hit me initally still remains in my handbag, fusing into the leather, refusing to evaporate. In a vain attempt, I have transferred everything from my first bag to another, the smell still lingers on my index finger from prodding the sample during the process.
Needless to say, I am not a fan of this fragrance. A slight variation of the classic Youth Dew fragrance by Estee Lauder, the cosmetic company has used US designer Tom Ford as a promoter, stating that he had altered the fragrance. It didn't make much of a difference to me; they both reek as much as each other.
I was pondering why the original fragrance had such a young, fresh namesake. "Youth Dew" is not usually what I had in mind for such an intoxicatingly sweaty smell. That was before realizing that it was introduced in 1953, I swear I had whiffed it on the bus next to little old ladies.
The first impression that had struck me was Bundaburg's ginger beer, and it had nothing to do with the fact that the liquid was exactly the same colour; that was only a delayed revelation. With the top notes using tea and grapefruit, it is curious that Bundaburg was what had first come to mind. The heart notes are floral, exuding black rose, carnations, jasmine, and ylang-ylang. It finishes with notes of wine, amber, vetiver, chocolate and vanilla, this is particularly potent as it still lingers in my handbag.

next time, just spill ginger beer in your handbag. It'd be cheaper, and tastier to clean up.
I like the post! Complaining about fragrances!

Thanks, I wish I can complain about more products but am afraid of angry mobs.
