Make up Trends Spring/Summer '07/08

September 25th 2007 02:30
STARS IN YOUR EYES
Bobbi Brown Metallic Collection
Make your eyes shimmer, sparkle and dance and stock up on the range of metallic eyeshadow because it’s all about bringing focus to your eyes this spring/summer season. Opt for lighter metallic shades like white, pink or gold during the day and more dramatic shades like purple, blue and forest green at night. Apply a lighter shade of metallic eyeshadow over the entire eyelid, working into the inner corners of the eye and use a darker shade into the crease of the lid. Line the inner sides of your eye with a black or dark brown eyeliner for a smouldering effect.

BOLD, BUSHY BROWS
Brooke Shields Eyebrows
The bushy eyebrows of the 80s are back so think carefully before you pick up those tweezers. But before you can sigh with relief and say goodbye to the painstaking process of tweezing, bushy can also mean scraggly (aka Incredible Hulk), when not maintained. So treat them like the hair on top of your head – tame them with gel and brush them up.

Check out : 5 Piece Eyeybrow Kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills – includes brow powder, brow gel, angled brow brush, tweezers and brow stencils.

DRAMATIC LASHES
Loreal Lash Architect
So that’s why more women are lining up for lash extensions these days. What better way to complement your new shimmering, sparkling eyeshadow than with long, full, almost-fake lashes? For those who would rather stay away from the fake stuff, invest in eyelash curlers and a great mascara that gives you both length and volume without the clump.

NATURAL-LOOK BASE
I don’t know about you but with the warm weather upon us, I don’t like my face feeling too heavy with make-up so hearing that covering your entire face with foundation is a no-no this season is good news for me. The aim is to use as little coverage as possible and make-up artists say that most people can get an even skin tone with just a tinted moisturiser (with sunscreen). If you want to hide away blemishes, apply dots of concealer and a brush of loose powder.

Check out : I only ever use Olay moisturiser now and unfortunately, they don’t have tinted moisturisers. If you’re as devoted to your current moisturiser as I am and don’t want to switch to another brand that stocks tinted moisturisers, all you do is mix in a blob of foundation with your Olay moisturiser.

BRONZED CHEEKS
The colour of healthy, sun-kissed cheeks to complement the tan you’ll be getting this season.

NUDE LIPS
Lip Tox Sheer
Just because the focus is all on the eyes doesn’t mean your lips should look washed out. So your lips can get just a little bit of attention even with its nude colour, the aim is to make them appear fuller and luscious. Opt for a lipstick that will give your pout a sheer gloss and a lip plumper for a fuller pout.

I love dramatic eyeshadow, so that trend suits me fine! However, I can't do the bushy eyebrows - mine just weren't made that way, and are quite thin of their own accord...

I have the sparsest eyebrows (is sparsest a word??). I wish a had bushy eyebrows to pluck!

The metallic eyeshadows look good.

I have dry skin, so I can get away with using a regular moisturiser and then using a tinted moisturiser on top of it. My favourite is Estee Lauder sheer tint. It doesn't have an actual colour when it comes out of the tube. The colour just matches to your skin naturally. Very cool. Not cheap though....think it's about $65.

Hi Nina,
I know. I'm sick of these matte eyeshadows that just make my eyes look bland. When you have non-existent lids, you definitely need something to make them stand out. Metallic eyeshadow is definitely something I'll be splurging on this season. Thanks for dropping by!

Hi Kylie,
Whoa, that is a bit of a dent in the budget, huh? I have dry skin as well and heavy make-up just makes my skin drier and more irritable. But I might stroll by the beauty counter at DJ and try the Estee Lauder.

Adding a bit of foundation in the moisturiser sounds interesting, but doesn't that mean you'll have make up on your face and you'll need to clean again after?

My kids used to tell me they hated my bushy eyebrows, they look fine to me. Quite happy, I'm with Brooke there, didn't realize these thing went in and out of fashion, seems that by staying put I have to win some of the time.

Great tip about the moisturiser and foundation. I'm with you. I only use Olay.

I went shopping today for "stuff" for summer. I was checking out the body lotions and seriously if someone could come up with the gloss plus tan plus skin firmer body moisturiser, it would be a winner.

Love & stuff

Hi Amy, you only really need to use tinted moisturiser during the day. A lot of people I know have two moisturisers - a tinted one they apply in the morning and a normal one they use at night. Which makes just mixing foundation in with your current moisturiser an even better idea, I reckon!

Hi Katyzzz, there you go, you've become a trendsetter!!!

Hi Mrs M, have you ever tried out Palmer's Cocoa Butter products? I'm sure I've seen one that does all three or maybe I'm just dreaming.

I used to use Shiseido Essential Tinted Moisturiser, which was quite good - it costs $40 on StrawberryNet, but I haven't actually seen it in any shops here.

I decided to try a cheaper brand last time - Stilla, which was about $25. That was a big mistake, as it was so bad I only used it once, and wasted the rest. I will probably get the Shiseido again when I do my next StrawberryNet order.
