Vamp Up Your Lips
As a Professional, Celebrity Hair & Makeup Artist who works on both sides of the Atlantic (NY & London) I am always searching for what the next hot look will be. Funny thing is no matter how trends in beauty may change- one iconic look always pops up every other season- the Golden Age of Hollywood. For a glamourous evening out, a 1940's vamp is always a winner. A strong lip always makes bold statement and it's easy to pair up eyes with just a few lashings of lovely mascara.
This past London Fashion Week I designed an entire makeup look for the Cassimi label's debut show just around a statement lip. The designers wanted an homage to 1947. I found the most delicious red- plum shade from Nars- Scarlet Empress from their latest collection. I kept the skin even and matt, added touch of bronzer on the cheeks and eyes to keep everything neutral, a bit of dark brown eye liner on the top layer of lashes and then let the lips do the talking. It was a show stopper and gave a clean modern twist to an old classic.
For an extra vamp effect and to give the lips a touch more pout- I took a dark brown lip pencil and only shaded in the corners of the mouth leaving the cupids bow of the lips full and puckered.
One thing that is important to watch out for with dark lips is that it can high light stained teeth so I found using a product like new Pearl Drops Instant White will work wonders. You paint it on the teeth like a nail varnish and it gives a bit of pearly white sparkle to the teeth, masks yellow stains like a tooth makeup and comes off easily when you brush your teeth! Super for smokers and coffee drinkers.
