Winter Lip Guide - kiss kiss!
May 3rd 2006 04:06
There's not much to worry about in winter when it comes to beauty. Everyone looks great in winter.
No bronzing, no waxing, no oil control.....it's great.
The only serious concern is dry lips that get worse as we lick them more and more. Lip balms are therefore the most indispensible accessory of the season. They last a very long time, so if you think about it, some of the more pricey ones are worth it if it really works for you. It saves you $$$ from trialing different stuff that don't end up working that well.
Some good ones:
Bodyshop Born Lippy Balm:
This is a yummy lippy that's not too sticky and keeps your lips moderately moisturized. It's made from beeswax from Zambia, does that make it more appealing? Anyhow, the flavours are delicious, some of my favourites are Watermelon (no colour), Strawberry, and Mango Peach (no colour). Though you do worry about eating the whole tub by the end of the month.
Lancome Juicy Tube:
A bit pricey, but if you can find a genuine one on ebay, then it's a pretty good deal. Lasts quite a while, but is more suited to those of you who prefer a more sticky substance. A bit difficult when the wind blows and your hair gets stuck in your mouth. Comes in a range of flavours, my favourite would have to be Daquiri!
Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer:
This is a good little balm for those who like a more practical lip treatment. It's inexpensive, and pretty much does the job without making a big smell or getting your mouth all sticky. It also has SPF 15 protection, which is always good considering the gigantic hole in our Ozone layer.
Clinique Superbalm Tinted Lip Treatment: This is a cute one you can carry around with you. There is also a clear balm that wouldn't tint your lips, and is pretty moisturizing. My fav flavour is the Mango Tint (pictured). Other good flavours include Raspberry and Watermelon. Can be a bit sticky.
Mary Kay Satin Lips Lip Balm:
This beautiful balm comes with the lip mask that gives your lips a very thorough treatment. But I think the balm is enough to wear every day. It does its job pretty well, especially helpful for those who has very dry or chapped lips. I don't think you can buy Mary Kay products in stores yet but they have heaps of Avon-like consultants roaming about. Or there's always the good old Strawberrynet or Ebay. It's a more serious lip treatment, so if you can live with less-than-satin lips, I wouldn't recommend the splurge.
Dr Hauschka Lip Care Stick:
Has a very lovely rose fragrance. Dr Hauschka stuff always had some quality herbal ingredients and this product is no exception. Especially for those who gets red sore areas around their lips (over licking!) in winter, this product is especially suitable. It actually feels like it's making your lips more healthy, or perhaps it's just the effect of spending $30 on lip balm, you just gotta love, you gotta.
Happy balming everyone!

Another one of my faves is Clinique's superbalm. Great range of colours and they are great for healing chapped lips whilst lasting longer than the Juicy tubes as well.
Try it out sometime!
